The Coronation of Caroline

The 'upstate' tour is already being planned. Anybody not Democrat and cares will be inundated by local news coverage of the visit, like HIllary in 2000. Like most upstaters, my indifference will manifest itself by simply not showing up. Unfortunately the party apparatchiks will pack a firehouse or school auditorium and the delirium of the faithful will ooze between the lost cat and the weather report that night. My brother once described a visit by Bill Clinton on the USS Arkansas when he served on it. The idea was to get as far away from any trouble that could come of it. The same holds true for most upstaters.

The aides are lining up. The fawning elites are opining about it and the average person must certainly be confounded by it all. Senate seats seem like a dime a dozen nowadays as ambitious Senators and Governors start to line up behind the real power. Wouldn't it be great if they just had a basic lottery for a vacancy until the next election ? It would make that person an immediate celebrity and real people could witness a representative with real clout. The utter randomness of it all might provide some real hope. Otherwise it's business as usual for the power players. At least the netroots is trying to oppose it.

You're a political genius. You lead the boomers to power, the backlash was GWB and you confirm how sleazy real good politicians are. Fantastic luck this Hillary thing.

How much mileage can the former state media get any more ? Certainly it will help Limbaugh and Gang, this new job. But when things calm down and people come home, you'll get all the credit again.

Hillary's Hurrah

Well it looks like Hillary has come home. At least to the extent that she carpet bagged into my own home and decided she could represent me in Washington. As there seems no limit to the capacity that New Yorkers will allow the Democratic Party to walk all over them (witness Hevesi and Spitzer), it is fun to reflect on the last two years. The naked and raw ambition of the Clintons has never been a question for little 'ol me who had to endure the embarrassment of the listening tour in 2000. virtual_hill.jpg

Even though I know they exist, I never found the ardent Hillary supporter willing to discuss the ideas or issues that she presumably represented for us. Rather it was always how horrible the Republicans were or some other equally vague bromide or premonition. So let's take a quick look at the highlights of the POTUS chase for our favorite daughter from, Illinois, Arkansas and DC.

Dear Senator Clinton,

I know that you have have been really busy running for President of the United States and look forward to being the first women to attain that honor. I appreciate that you will be denied the pleasures of an upstate Spring or the perpetual carnival that is the metropolitan area. With all due respect, you must help put the 'luv' back in New York. Please end your campaign and return home to restore the integrity of the state and your party. resign.jpg

Included in this message is a copy of a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, David Paterson. If Mr. Paterson would agree to also resign, New Yorkers could benefit from an election this fall for a new governor. I believe you are uniquely qualified to help the healing process and console the current First Lady of New York.

Thank you for the consideration of this letter.

Sincerely,

John/Jane Q. Public 99

Take my Senator, please !

During Meet the Press this last Sunday I asked my five year old if he knew who Hillary Clinton was. He did not. He thinks Ron Paul is President. When I indicated that she was his Senator and running for President, he said, "A girl is running for President ?". While a lot of play has gone on about the shifting vote in New Hampshire and the potential Muskie moment, this particular moment made that one seem real. The rest of the process and parade seems unreal. hill_home.jpg

My absentee Senator is doing the job the people of NY elected her for, that is, running for President. After all, this is the same group that re-elected the Alan Hevesi. I remember the silliness of her first upstate 'listening tour' and now I do not wonder what motivates her in the morning. It may very well be when I wake up next year at this time the country will have my Senator. Good luck with that.

Dare to Compete

The latest from Hillary is an emotional plea meant to counterbalance the hard ambitious ( in the bard's Mark Antony sense) image of the Senator from New York.

When I was contemplating whether or not to run for the Senate, I found myself swinging back and forth. One moment it was a good idea. The next, it seemed crazy. So I kept pondering what to do, waiting for lightning to strike.

Apparently while promoting a film about women sports, the captain of the basketball team leaned over and whispered " Mrs. Clinton, dare to compete." Suddenly it dawns on the First Lady that she might be afraid of something that she had urged countless other women to do. I thought it might be the Moynihan endorsement for the pitiable figure who emerged looking like a fool after her husband's humiliation of impeachment over what seemed like a messy hummer.
