The 'upstate' tour is already being planned. Anybody not Democrat and cares will be inundated by local news coverage of the visit, like HIllary in 2000. Like most upstaters, my indifference will manifest itself by simply not showing up. Unfortunately the party apparatchiks will pack a firehouse or school auditorium and the delirium of the faithful will ooze between the lost cat and the weather report that night. My brother once described a visit by Bill Clinton on the USS Arkansas when he served on it. The idea was to get as far away from any trouble that could come of it. The same holds true for most upstaters.
The aides are lining up. The fawning elites are opining about it and the average person must certainly be confounded by it all. Senate seats seem like a dime a dozen nowadays as ambitious Senators and Governors start to line up behind the real power. Wouldn't it be great if they just had a basic lottery for a vacancy until the next election ? It would make that person an immediate celebrity and real people could witness a representative with real clout. The utter randomness of it all might provide some real hope. Otherwise it's business as usual for the power players. At least the netroots is trying to oppose it.
