Washington (January 2013) -
A stunned punditocracy was aghast as President Sundwall refused to take an oath of office after an incredible electoral coup. As Sundwall cited in the eventual inauguration speech;

" I cannot conscionably take an oath to a God I do not believe in or a document that is no longer abided by. I realize that this will be a shock for many, but so will this administration."
Speculation has abounded about what many consider the erratic behavior of the newly minted executive of the state. With statements like, " What part about decentralize and appealing, don't you get ?" and " martial law will desist on day one" many analysts feel the country isn't ready for such a radical departure from mainstream representation. Sundwall, of course, disagrees.
" We've been systematically deprived of our rights to labor, property and self-protection. Our economy is in the tank because mainstream politicians have raped the Treasury assuring us that the Keynesian logic is sound. Our troops are abroad in over 100 countries. What this administration will achieve is nothing short of the second American Revolution."
At first reports of the Sundwall holing himself up in the White House and claiming that he wouldn't emerge to deal with the Congress until Spring seemed exaggerated. Eventually it became apparent that you may be able to take the boy out of Columbia County, but you couldn't take the Columbia County out of the boy. Multiple ping pong tables were reported delivered and all manner of vehicles were parked on the south lawn as rumors about an exclusive tournament percolated through an intrigued press corps. No one really knows what his international rating is, but they say he's that good.
It wasn't clear if it was legal, but one of the first executive orders was to dismantle the monopoly of law schools. Suddenly every person had an opportunity to take the bar and just submit their own legalzoom documents to the appropriate bureaucrat. Sources inside the administration said it will still take years before the stranglehold of people who couldn't make it as doctors, engineers or pizza delivery boys will be sufficiently disabused of the notion that they represent people's legal rights rather than operate as sanctioned parasites.
Oddly enough, aides and top officials were already talking about legacy, six hours into the administration. Mental Health Czar Robert Milnes " I'm fairly certain he won't last. If he had employed a more Progressive_Libertarian alliance, we might have been able to carry a bigger stick before the impeachment proceedings." Secretary of Underfinance, Dr. Carl Milstead, " Trying to replace the Fed was a mistake. It was very obvious that new currencies based on digital signatures or MAC addresses wouldn't be popular in the first term." Insider, political director Aaron Starr, " I was surprised he raised half a trillion that one quarter, be devaluation has that effect. I suspect that he'll concentrate on local issues like eliminating State's governments."
Reports that the new chief sneaks out from the eyes of his state dog protectors at the executive mansion and volunteers at missions and youth soccer games seem like tall tales that pop biographers who like to monkey with photoshop are just pumping the tabloid circulations for. It is true that he revealed a secret Justin TV account and was pulled by aides from an entire nuclear weapons dismantling project being broadcast live on the Internets. Loyalists within maintain that he brought his own tools.
Sundwall claims the press can have a conference with him anytime they want and gives them his cell phone number. Top reporters say that unless you're really into Kierkegaard it's not worth it. Just manufacture something at the Alden Link press briefings. He sometimes makes surprise visits to Doris Kearns Goodwin's place in Concord MA with chief economic jester Thomas DiLorenzo. Reports are that Kearns is very gracious and still serves tea and crumpets after their strolls around Walden Pond. Kearns theory on Sundwall " Well he's certainly an enigma as far as the executive role is concerned. But despite our skepticism, the economy is booming and drunk driving doesn't carry the stigma it used to. I suspect it will be years before we figure out his complexities. I'm guessing Martin Van Buren has played a big role. My new book about Matty Van has been expanded tremendously as a result of Sundwall's influence."
In the end it may have been his insistence that all people should be free that was the appeal to open borders. By letting the world in and letting the uptight anal retentive American guard down, people from all over the world realized the hope and dream of American freedom of their ancestors wasn't misplaced. When people realized it was all about a solid meal, a good pair of jeans and a nice place to call dome, they suddenly let their repressed atomistic side out and discovered that it was all about enlightened self interest, policy and police be damned.
