RNC: Platinum Member

Despite my best efforts to dissuade the RNC of my need to be in their club, they sent me Jay Salwen's Platinum member club card. I'm not sure who this Doctor from Latham NY is, but he's welcome to come pick it up if he Google's himself at all and finds this entry. I guess those envelopes I send back either with a blank form or just empty aren't enough. You'd think some savvy staffer might just Google me.

Apparently Mike Duncan is determined to defeat any Democrat who would " raise taxes, swing America's courts to the left, increase needless regulations on small businesses and undermine America's fight against terrorism. " I'm wondering how he feels about the prospect of Dr. Paul receiving his party's nomination. Here's what the rest of the plea babbles on about . . .

What makes your Platinum Card so prestigious is that only a select few individuals from New York may be nominated for the President's Club membership at this time, and therefore only a limited number of Platinum Cards were printed for personalized engraving.

It's a shame that you didn't send this off to the right person. If I activate this card and start attending these 'exciting events' will Homeland Security trump up some charge against me ? Send back in tomorrow's mail you say ? You're lucky I even opened it.

Send in a thousand bucks ? That sure would go a long way for ballot access in Oklahoma or North Carolina, our current efforts on the LNC. It's hard for me to be too sympathetic about how much the 'Democrat' party has raised for their candidates. Mike's got a three prong plan;

1. Tax Relief: According to the RNC the 2001 & 2003 are generating incredible economic growth (the efforts of individuals and companies not withstanding). Claiming to have reduced the self-induced deficit by over half, he's claiming the 'Democrat' party will raise taxes 2.4 trillion. Considering how much the wars have cost, at least somebody is being realistic about themselves.

2. America's Courts: Apparently if Hillary and Obama get there the whole system will go dangerously left. Ho hum. It takes a good ten to fifteen years for each side to correct the other in these situations. It took twenty years of a meek Federalist crew after Jefferson to start using judicial review after Marbury v. Madison (see Bruce Ackerman's book Failure of the Founding Fathers)

3. National Security: Same old dance here, military, terrorists, secure homeland, world a safer place, 'more peaceful place' ? Hmmmm . . . seems like even Richard Holbrooke might do a better job.

I have to admit the temptation to activate the card and get some face time with real neocons might be some fun. But for half that $1000 cost I can go to NYC and hang with the Mises crew . . . .

Your money was better spent with the Mises crew. Rubbing elbows with neo-cons can cause any sane man to break out in hives.

Get this breaking news...
At the RNC Presidential Trust Dinner which John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson were supposed to speak, only Romney and Ron Paul showed up. People paid $1000/ticket to be there.
I'm sure it would have been an even better event if Romney didn't show up also.

Eric,
I know Jay, he was very active in the Libertarian Party in years gone by. I think that Bill knows how to get in touch with him.

John, thanks for vouching form me.

Eric, please feel free to shred the card for me. I have not recently nor, do I recall, ever given $ to the RNC. I would pick the card up and shred it myself but do not know where you are.

I generally give money to things I believe in but have, in my earlier libertarian years given $5 donations to misc "causes" just to see what was out there. I was on many lists anyway because of the spread of libertarian interests. Then maybe $5 to stay on a list. Now maybe $15 to get the fleece throws or backpacks for my grandchildren.

My sister, by chance or perversity, was Googling my name and came upon this listing. I have added you to my blog sites.

Yours in Liberty,
JKS
