The American Dictator Project Wants You !

As an unapologetic no government type of guy, I kinda think government is best served by a dictator. Not the 20th Century garden variety mass murderer, but rather the Roman conceived restorer of order and the Republic. A Republic whose citizens stake out personal and property rights and accept no other alternative. As these rights are abridged and water downed by mealy mouthed politicians whose art of the compromise guarantees nothing but there own dubious success and morphs a sentiment and emotion into every transaction of human suffering, hardened citizens need to consider a barrier to such false succor. uncle_sam.jpg

Napoleon was roundly elected Dictator and then crowned himself Emperor after the French people cast aside the shackles of monarchy for the Reign of Terror. History and literature have rewarded this striking event with every human interaction that requires the power of authority. Maybe not that bad. But, occasionally that same history offers a solution to human chaos in the form of genius (or clever/popular opportunist) that transcends all the previous idiocy with a tight and secure solution. Falling on the shoulders of a person whose capacity to lead is limited only by the power to commit to action and ideas with assent of a few key players. But what form would this take in an America accustomed to whining every blithering ache and moan about life and getting some form of renumeration in the form of political pork or programs ? Maybe this time he'll be in a robe and staff with long flowing hair . . . . or perhaps just an efficient committee.

The American Dictator Project is the search and perhaps confluence of effort that will afford the best possibility for a reasonable person of ideas and actions to end the influence of parliamentary procedure, budget appropriations and coalition building. How often do you hear 'If I were King . . " Again, much like constitutionalists, people think the idea of the King is more powerful than the realities. When based on feudalism, the King is a product of one's peers, in order to assure mutual protections of self and property. A real dictator comes in and cleans up that mess.

What about you ? What would you do if given absolute authority over everything in your sight ? You are the one who would rule best after all. No other person knows your interests, desires and capabilities better. Would you surround yourself with flunkies and yes men/women ? Would you issue decrees on behalf of the 'people' ? I know what I'd do, issue a Liberty proclamation releasing everyone from the shackles of power. Throw in some mumbo jumbo about the Golden Rule and hope for the best. Of course the lack of quality people and the loss of the ID probably wouldn't last and it would dissolve into a series of ugly power plays for some other less aspiring dictator, but hell, at least I'd try.

A moratorium on warlords, mandatory service in the Road Building Corps., two years of medical school for anyone with an IQ over 100 . . . . the list goes on.

Facts are a good thing. Napoleon was not elected anything. He sized power as first counsel in 1799.

There's my wise man bit. Look it up if you like.

This 'fact' was based on a reading of Robert Asprey's book 'The Rise of Napoleon Bonaparte'. While Bonaparte did seize power initially in 1799, he did subsequently hold an election for which he received over 90 percent of the vote to remain dictator.

Facts ARE great things. The spirit and intent of an entry shouldn't be diminished over the quibbling thereof however. I can assure you that even casual references are based on more than a citing in Wikipedia. This entry was a tongue and cheek bit designed to foster a little thought about power and its relationship to the individual. Perhaps I should employ more direct methods, but that would require less attention to my old man routine at home.
